Архангелската закрила е необходима на вярващите в духовно-нравствения им живот и в борбата с изкушенията.</p> <p>Според православната църква Св. Михаил е един от седемте първенстващи ангели, стоящи винаги пред престола на Господ. Денят на Св. Архангел Михаил - военачалник на цялото небесно войнство от ангели и архангели, е вторият по значимост след Димитровден есенен празник на Българската православна църква.</p> <p>В църковната иконография е изобразен с копие в ръка, тъпчещ с краката си дявола. В българската народна традиция Архангеловден се свързва с почитта към мъртвите и душата на човека. На Св. Архангел Михаил се е паднала задачата да отделя душата на човека от тялото, затова в съботата преди празника се прави Архангелова задушница, една от трите големи задушници през годината.</p> <p>В много райони на страната на този ден се коли курбан за светеца и се правят обредни хлябове, чиято пластика напомня тази на хлябовете, приготвяни за погребение или помен. Най-възрастният в дома чупи обредния хляб, полива го с вино и благославя: "Св. Архангеле, Св. Никола и вси светци, помагайте ни, почитаме Ви и сечем колач, да се роди ръж до тавана!"</p> <p>Имен ден празнуват всички, които носят името Ангел (означава - вестител), Ангелина, Архангел (означава - главен ангел) Михаил (означава - като Бог), Михаила, Гавраил (означава - крепост божия), Радка, Радко, Рангел, Райчо, Райна, Радослав, Рада, Рая, Огнян, Пламен, Емилия (означава - съпреник), Емил, Милен, Мильо, Михаела, Серафим. </p>
