<p>Днес (17ти септември) Православната църква почита паметта на Светите мъченици София, Вяра, Надежда и Любов, загинали в страшни мъчения за Христовата вяра през 126 година.</p>
<p>София била благочестива християнка с три дъщери, които кръстила на основните християнски добродетели - Вяра, Надежда и Любов, съобщи БТА.</p>
<p>Момичетата били родени в Рим, когато властите жестоко преследвали вярващите в Христа. Майката и дъщерите не криели своята вяра и я изповядвали открито. Когато научил за тях, император Адриан заповядал да му ги доведат. Вяра била на 12 години, Надежда - на 10, а Любов - на 9 години. По пътя към двореца София и дъщерите й отправили гореща молба към Исус Христос да им даде сили да не се страхуват от очакващите ги мъки и гибел. И наистина - когато те застанали пред императора, всички били изненадани от спокойствието им.</p>
<p>Император Адриан привикал сестрите една след друга и ги убеждавал да принесат жертва на богинята Артемида. Момичетата обаче упорито отказвали. Императорът се ядосал и наредил да бъдат подложени на мъчения, но това не сломило вярата им в Христа. Императорът предал телата на сестрите на майка им и тя ги погребала с почести на хълм извън града. София останала на гроба и след три дни на молитви, починала с вярата, че отива при дъщерите си. Християнската църква почита София като мъченица, защото в сърцето си тя изживяла мъченията, които изтърпели трите й момичета.</p>
<p>Вяра, Надежда и Любов са обявени за покровителки на децата, защото и те самите са пострадали в името на Христа като деца. От 777 г. мощите на Светите мъченици София, Вяра, Надежда и Любов почиват в Елзас, Франция.</p>
<p>Днешният празник се празнува от именниците, които посрещат гости. В много къщи на този ден се месят пресни питки и се раздават с грозде или с други плодове за здраве, щастие и любов. Пеят се песни и се играят хора. Днешният ден е обявен за празник на столицата ни - София, чието име на гръцки означава "премъдрост".
